Day of the Omelette in Juice in Ulldemolins (13rd March)

Ulldemolins is known for the gastronomic party of the omelette of spinaches in juice, one of the emblematic dishes of the Priorat. In 1982, it was born in shy way as a meeting of the neighborhood all around this home cooking dish. Initially, it was a local dish of Lent, when the meat disappeared temporarily from the meals of the believers and the fish and the pulses charged protagonism. Formerly it already turned up with persistence in whole the region but in different forms and versions: with kidney beans or spinaches, mixing the kidney beans directly on the juice, etc. The dish can be accompanied with artichokes and eggs, and some ladies introduce springs of soaked cod in the omelette and all mixed with kidney beans or fried cod in the juice, cooking everything in a boiling.

The day begins during the morning, when the competition that pressed the tastiest and best adorned omelette is celebrated. The omelettes are on display in the Plaça del Santuari de la Mare de Déu de Loreto. Many people of the village participate and bring their culinary creations at lunchtime so it allows tasting all kind of omelettes. Then it is possible to know the quality of the field products.

Procession of Good Friday in Valls and Tarragona (25th March)

Within the repertoire of religious celebrations of the Costa Daurada, a very distinguished date is that of the Good Friday. Long ago, Valls celebrated three different processions: that of Sunday of ‘Rams’, known as Improperis, that of Saintly Thursday and that of Good Friday, all them played by different Brotherhoods. Unfortunately, these brotherhoods have stopped participating in it. The last processions were in 1973, with that of the Improperis on Sunday of ‘Rams’, and in 1979, with that of the Saint Funeral.

This year, however, thanks to the willing and enthusiastic work of many inhabitants, who are grouped in the Commission for the Recovery of the Good Friday Procession, it is possible to enjoy this procession again. The Fraternity of Pupils and ex-pupils of the Col·legi Pare Claret, the Fraternity of the Crucifixion, the Fraternity of the Saint Christ of Lepant, the Fraternity of the Saint Christ of Saint Joan, the Fraternity of the Lowering, the Royal Fraternity of Nostra Senyora dels Dolors and the Fraternity of the Saint Sepulcher take part of it.
